Day 1

Arrive in Japan / Kansai International Airport - Kyoto

Gion Street, Kyoto
Upon arrival at Kansai International Airport, clear customs, make your way to the train station within the airport and take the Haruka bullet train to Kyoto Station. (80 min) Walk across the road to your accommodation at the New Miyako Hotel.

After check in, commence exploring the historical city of Kyoto.

In the evening, board a subway to Shijo Station and walk to Gion - Kyoto's famous old entertainment district. Gion is one place in Japan where you may see Geisha walking between between appointments. As darkness falls watch the traditional lanterns gradually come to life and wander down tiny alleys housing a variety of restaurants offering tempting cuisine.

Day 2

Kyoto

Kinkakuji Temple, Kyoto
Spend the day exploring the many highlights of Japan's old capital.

At 08:55am you will be picked up for your Kyoto Morning Tour operated by Sunrise Tours. Your English speaking local guide will take you by bus to Nijo Castle, the Golden Pavilion, Kyoto Imperial Palace and will terminate at the Kyoto Station.

In the afternoon, board a local bus number 100 or 206 (15 min - 230 yen) to Kiyomizu Temple. Get off the bus at the stop called Gojo-zaka or Kiyomizu-michi. Take the entertaining 10 minute walk to the temple past the many souvenir and craft stops. From Kiyomizu's famous giant wooden verandah, you can see a spectacular panoramic view of Kyoto. Its main hall is entirely constructed of wood and supported by huge columns and beams without the use of a single nail, screw or bolt.

In the evening, you may like to try one of the many restaurants surrouding Kyoto Station.

Day 3

Kyoto - Nara - Kyoto

Board a limited express train from Kyoto Station to Nara which was Japan's capital from 710 to 784 AD. (45 min) All sightseeing is within comfortable walking distance of the station.

Walk through the town to visit Nara Park which is famous for the many tame deer that roam the area. At the end of the park is the hertitage listed Todai-Ji temple which is the largest wooden building in the world. This houses the 'Giant Buddha' which soars 16 meters in height.

Return to Nara Station via Nara-machi, an old precint full of traditional houes, shops and tea rooms in calm pleasant surroundings giving a pleasant contrast to the great temples and old burial mounds.

Return to Kyoto in the late afternoon.

Day 4

Depart Japan / Kyoto - Kansai International Airport

Depart Japan
Spend your last morning in Kyoto completing any final sightseeing or shopping.

Board the Haruka express train from Kyoto Station to Kansai International Airport. (80 min) Please note this train must be reserved in advance. Board your flight to your next destination.
